Charlestown is a neighborhood in Boston, MA, USA. At the beginning, it was called Mishawum by the Massachusetts. It is situated north of the Charles River on a peninsula. It should be noted that the neighborhood was originally a town.
Then, in 1848, it officially became a city and was annexed to Boston in 1874. After the 1840s, a great number of Irish settlers came here. Though after the 1980s, the population changed, it is still a neighborhood where a lot of Irish Americans live.
